HISTORY

A family estate for 5 generations

It was in 1781 that Maurice de Faventine bought the Château de Lavagnac and its lands.
The Château then passed to his niece who would become Viscountess Daudé d'Alzon.
The d'Alzon family lived at the Château de Lavagnac with their three children.

His son, Father Emmanuel d'Alzon, left Lavagnac on March 14, 1832, to return to the diocese of Nîmes, before becoming the founder and first superior general of the Augustinians of the Assumption, or Assumptionists. Father Emmanuel d'Alzon came regularly to Lavagnac to see his family. His sister Marie Françoise married Anatole de Puységur.
Upon his death, his son Jean de Puységur took over the estate. After experimenting with silkworm farming, he gradually developed viticulture. He married Clotilde Pourroy de l'Auberivière de Quinsonas in August 1872.
From this marriage three daughters were born: Marie, 1873-1921 – Alix 1875-1954, and Isabelle 1883-1965,

Jean de Puységur will share the Lavagnac estate among his three daughters, thus creating the Conseillère estate, which he will give to his last daughter, Isabelle de Rodez.

Marie Clotilde, married to Robert Harrouard de Suarez d'Aulan, inherited the Château and the Lavagnac estate. In 1946, upon the death of their father, Henri and his sister, Clotilde de Virieu, ensured the continuity of the family estate. Henri obtained the use of the château and managed the property. In 1969, the division became effective between the brother and his sister. In 1986, Lavagnac was put up for sale by Henri d'Aulan.

Isabelle de Rodez-Bénavent had no children and gave the La Conseillère estate to her niece Clotilde de Virieu in 1968.

The Virieu family continues to perpetuate wine production and aims to perpetuate the spirit. The magic of the place has affected the 5th generation. We became winemakers after a busy first half of our lives, at the age of 50, charmed by the stones and the vines. It is here in the south of France, near Pézenas, that we welcome you to share discoveries in all their forms: workshops, tours, tastings, accommodation.
